BDMHA Members, I want to introduce myself as the current VP of Development within the BDMHA (Bedford District Minor Hockey Association). I've had the pleasure of coaching and playing hockey for over 44 years and always enjoyed the team aspect and the friendship the sport can offer people of all ages. Last year I was lucky enough to be selected to attend the Hockey Canada High-Performance coaching program in Atlantic Canada; I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with BDMHA.My role focuses on developing your young athletes and our coaches at all game levels. In previous years, our focus within the BDMHA organization was primarily player development, which will still be an essential aspect of our program; the big difference this year is we will also be focusing on coach development. As your development team, we understand that we cannot always attend or offer positive corrections as this is just too many practices and games to follow. Our efforts will be to help educate and support our coaches so they can support our young athlete's adventure and development, ensuring that each player's experience from the development aspect is excellent. With the help of our Hockey Professional (HP) Andre Lefebvre, we have developed the following activities for our players and coaching staff this year. All programming below will be held at the HRM 4-PAD on Gary Martin Drive.HNS and BDMHA Coaching programs.-- Intro to Coach -- MultiPurpose room ( 4-hour classroom) -- New Coaches at all levels.-- Level 1 Goalie coach -- ( 1-hour classroom, 1-hour on-ice session ) -- all coaches at all levels. (min 1 required per team )HNS and BDMHA Player development programs. We will be offering in partnership with HNS a Jump into goalie for first-time goalies u11/u13/u15/u18 - Registration is complete. This year we will again be partnering with HSN and Para Hockey program to support and run sessions at the HRM 4 PAD weekly. The focus will be to have BDMHA teams out as part of a team-building exercise to join in the experience and appreciate the pureness and passion for the game these Para-athletes have.BDHMA coaching programs.-- Power Skating and Passing ( 1-hour classroom, 1-hour on-ice session )-- Battle drills and Angling ( 1-hour classroom, 1-hour on-ice session )-- Penalty kill and Power Play ( 1-hour classroom, 1-hour on-ice session )-- Hot Stove! ( coach discussion ) with guest coaches ( 1-hour classroom )BDMHA Player and programs.Jump into Goalie - To support and encourage goaltending, we will offer a Jump into goalie session for U7 and U9 players that wish to try goaltending. Spots will be limited to available gear for these age groups, and the session will be defined first to come based on available equipment.Goalie Core Skills - Goalie core skills will still occur; one coach per goalie present will be asked to attend to learn the drills and help assist.Player Core Skills - This year, we will also change our core skills program. We will be looking to have the team coaches on during the session to run the stations and help teach the kids. We will share all drills for each core skill session at least 24 hours before the scheduled session. We will have some paid assistants ( 3 or fewer, plus our HDP) on the ice to help, but the focus will be on the children and coaches; who will benefit from these sessions.Jump into Hockey - We offer our jump into hockey program again this year every week for first-time hockey players who want to try and experience the game.Below you will see a screenshot outlining the programs and dates defined above. In addition, HNS is partnering with BDMHA and offering the "Intro to coaching" course in-house for the first time; we will be counting on our membership to attend, so we can continue offering these programs.
