Tryout Structure

  • BDMHA will continue to run a similar format as what was done for the 2025-26 season. Due the condensed HNS Seasonal Structure, the U11 process has been streamlined in terms of duration (not number of sessions)
  • The plan is to run four sessions over the weekend of September 19-20 (two each day):
    • Morning: Skills sessions
    • Afternoon: Intrasquad games
  • This means all players will participate in two sessions per day for a total of four sessions that weekend.
  • Goalie skills evaluations will occur on Friday, September 18

Evaluation Process

  • Following these sessions, players will be placed as follows:
    • Some assigned directly to Recreation (C-Level)
    • Some may get “parked” at U11 AA
    • The remaining players will be placed into three new ranked groups (pools) to determine final placement at AA, A, or B.
  • This process will result in a fifth and final skate for the majority of players.

Exhibition Games

  • There will be no formal exhibition games at U11 this season.
    • Five sessions are sufficient to make fair and accurate decisions.
    • Bedford has consistently iced 2 AA, 2 A, and 2 B teams, making additional games unnecessary to determine team counts
    • Reasoning:
  • Note: Some exhibition games may still be used later in the process strictly for team balancing and drafting purposes. More details will be shared if this occurs.

Schedule

  • The final schedule and groupings will be posted one week before tryouts begin.

Parents are reminded that they are not permitted to watch tryouts from ice level or remain in the hallway area of Rink D. Viewing must take place from the designated spectator areas only.

Tryout Jerseys & Socks – Mandatory Requirements

  • Each player will be issued a reversible tryout jersey at check-in. This jersey will be unique to them and used for the entirety of the 2025–2026 evaluation process. Players are responsible for bringing it to every scheduled session.
  • If a player does not have their assigned jersey, they will not be permitted to participate in that session. Missing a session will directly impact their overall evaluation.
  • At the conclusion of tryouts, team managers will collect all tryout jerseys once teams are finalized. Jerseys will then be exchanged with our equipment manager for game jerseys. Any missing tryout jerseys must be replaced at the player’s expense (approximately $50 per jersey).
  • All players must wear Bedford Minor Hockey socks or plain blue, black, or white socks. Brightly coloured socks or socks from other teams/programs are not permitted.
