U13-AAA Tryout Flowchart - HERE
UPDATE: August 30, 2024
Tryout season is fast approaching, and we will be kicking things off with the U13-AAA tryout process on September 15th, 2024. The purpose of this message is to provide relevant information as it relates to schedule, process, and expectations for U13-AAA.
The U13-AAA team is a high-performance elite team that will play province wide. This year we have approximately sixty (60) players registered and competing for 15 player spots and 2 goalies spots. The try outs will assess players that can compete at this high-level hockey on and off the ice.
This year BDMHA will be appointing tryout out coordinators, Todd Shupe and Nick Yuill. They will report into the tryout committee and be assigned a division. Nick Yuill has been assigned to the U13 division. The coordinators will primarily work with the evaluators to ensure they are set up and supported to allow them to focus on assessing the players. They will also be the representative during discussions with the evaluators post sessions to ensure updates are provided to Matt Oxford for communication out to the members as well as troubleshoot off ice items that come up day of within the assigned division.
BDMHA will be utilizing external evaluators to assess all players each session. There may be a case where we use internal resources that have the skill set to perform evaluations and do not have a direct conflict within the division. No evaluators external or internal will have a direct relationship to the players trying out to ensure the integrity of the process. Evaluators will utilize a new software tool through GrayJay to mark scores and notes on the criteria set out by our Hockey Development Professional. Access to the GrayJay evaluation tool will be limited throughout the entire process with Matt Oxford and Nick Yuill being the only ones with full administrator rights.
Schedule and Process:
What can players and parents expect this year? All registered players for U13-AAA are guaranteed two ice times which will begin on Sunday, September 15th. Scheduled ice times for the U13-AAA try out process are below and can be found HERE. Any changes or updates to the schedule will be posted on this page.
A flow chart which outlines the stages that BDMHA will follow for the U13 AAA try outs can be found HERE. You will notice we have adapted the process this year based on feedback from the membership and to provide a smoother elite level evaluation.
The first two skates will be inter squad games. Once the inter squad games are completed, and evaluators have finalized assessments players will be reassigned to the next phase and or released from the AAA process. Those players that have been released will move into our AA, A, B process that will begin September 28th. The next stage of the U13-AAA process will consist of a skills assessment followed by exhibition games. Please refer to the flow chart that is an illustration of each stage, again it can be found HERE .
Parent Q&A Session:
To create transparency and answer questions new and returning parents at the U13-AAA try out process may have we will be hosting a parent only virtual Q&A session on Tuesday, September 3rd at 7:30pm. There is an RSVP FORM you need to fill out if you would like to attend. Everyone that RSVPs will receive the meeting link the day before the session. There is also a section in the form where you can provide questions in advance that we can ensure are answered in the session. If after the session parents/player re-evaluate their choice to continue in the U13-AAA process, we will entertain changes and refunds up to and including September 10th in order to adapt the schedule. We will not be accepting anyone new into the process at this time.
We look forward to a great season ahead and creating a great culture on and off the ice for all players and parents.
