Annual Awards
Every year BDMHA recognizes individuals who go above an beyond for their teams and the association.
Nominations for the 2024-25 Season are now being accepted. Deadline to nominate an individual March 31, 2025
Competitive Coach of the Year
The Competitive Coach of the Year award recognizes a coach who has made a significant impact by fostering a high-performance, positive, supportive and fun environment for their players. This coach is committed to skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship while helping athletes reach their full potential both on and off the ice.
We are looking for a coach who demonstrates leadership, dedication, and a passion for the game. They push their players to improve while also building confidence, resilience, and a strong team culture. Their ability to motivate and inspire leaves a lasting impression on their team and the broader hockey community.
Recreation Coach of the Year
Hockey is about more than just competition—it’s about teamwork, development, and love for the game. The Recreation Coach of the Year award recognizes a coach who has made a meaningful impact by fostering an inclusive, fun, and supportive environment for their players.
We are looking for a coach who has shown dedication to player growth, fair play, and creating a positive experience for every athlete, regardless of skill level. This coach makes hockey enjoyable while helping players build confidence, friendships, and a passion for the game. Their enthusiasm and encouragement leave a lasting impression on their team and our hockey community.
Manager of the Year
Behind every successful hockey team is a dedicated team manager who works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. The Team Manager of the Year award recognizes an individual who has gone above and beyond to support their team, ensuring that players, coaches, and families have a well-organized and positive hockey experience.
We are looking for a manager who demonstrates outstanding commitment, organization, and leadership. This person handles scheduling, communication, logistics, and countless other tasks—often without recognition—to help their team focus on the game. Their dedication, problem-solving skills, and positive attitude make a lasting impact on their team and our hockey community.
Volunteer of the Year
Hockey wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our incredible volunteers. The Joanne Lenihan Volunteer of the Year award recognizes an individual whose commitment and hard work have made a meaningful impact on our hockey association. Their efforts help create a positive experience for players, families, and the broader hockey community.
We are looking for a volunteer who demonstrates outstanding dedication, passion, and a willingness to step up wherever needed. Whether they are organizing events, assisting with teams, helping with fundraising, or supporting the association in other ways, their contributions make hockey more enjoyable and accessible for everyone.
BDMHA Supporter Award
Hockey is more than just the players on the ice and the coaches behind the bench—it takes a whole community to make a season successful. The BDMHA Supporter Award recognizes those individuals who go above and beyond to support their team in ways that may not always be seen but are always felt.
This award is dedicated to the parents, volunteers, and supporters who step up in countless ways—whether it’s livestreaming games for families who can’t be there, organizing fundraisers, serving as the team treasurer, capturing memories through photos, or simply being the one who always brings snacks and encouragement. These contributions may happen behind the scenes, but they make a lasting impact on the team and the hockey experience.
This award celebrates the unsung heroes of our hockey community—the ones who make the season special through their dedication, kindness, and generosity.
Nomination Criteria:
- Open to individuals who are not official team staff members but contribute significantly to the team’s success and experience.
- Contributions can include, but are not limited to, fundraising efforts, financial management, game support (live streaming, photography, music, etc.), event organization, team spirit initiatives, and overall positive influence on the team.
Eileen Mader Award
This award honors individuals who exemplify perseverance in the face of adversity. It recognizes those who, despite encountering significant personal, or health-related obstacles, maintain an unwavering dedication to their goals. The recipient of this award is someone who approaches challenges not as roadblocks but as opportunities to grow and learn. Their resilience, determination, and positive attitude inspire others, and their consistent effort toward achieving their objectives makes a lasting impact. This individual is a beacon of strength, commitment, and adaptability, demonstrating that with dedication and perseverance, it is possible to overcome even the most difficult circumstances. The U7/U9 Coach would be similar to the Rec coach and the Manager is the same for both.
