Special Meeting - 2022/23 Registration Fees - Update

BDMHA Members

As a further update to our announcement of a Special Meeting to approve the proposed fees for the 2022/2023 season.  The fees as setout below are based on the following additional budget and ice considerations:

  • Throughout the year we received many inquiries from our recreational team coaches, parents and players as to why there was such an inequity between the hours of ice provided by the association to the competitive and recreational levels of hockey.  This year there will be parity between the ice times provided by the association at the competitive and recreational levels which resulted in a larger than usual increase to recereational fees.
  • As a result of recommendations from the 2021/2022 Goaltending Committee, we are adding a full-time goalie development professional which is budgeted at $18,000 per year
  • As part of our strategic direction to develop our coaches, we will ensure that each team at the U11 – U15 level has a coach certified with the Hockey Canada Goalie Development Level 1 certification.
  • Annually, we refresh our development equipment and loaner-goalie equipment and the 2022/2023 maximum spend will be $12,000
  • We need to increase referee fees to attract and retain referees within the Association
  • As part of our strategic direction to develop our coaches, we plan to decrease the number of paid core skills staff and re-engage coaches during core skills sessions
  • Annually, we refresh jerseys and the 2022/20233 maximum spend will be $10,000

With these changes, the proposed 2022/2023 fees will be modified from the  2021/2022 fee schedule as follows:

  • The Jump Into Hockey program will see a decrease of $40.00 from the 2021/2022 season to encourage and allow more children the opportunity to try hockey for the first time.
  • The U23 Program will see a decrease of $150.00 from the 2021/2022 season to align the cost per player with the registration fee per player.
  • U7 and U9 programs will see an increase of $5.00 from the 2021/2022 season.
  • U11, U13, U15, U18 Competitive programs will see an increase of $5.00 from the 2021/2022 season.
  • U11, U13, U15, U18 Recreational programs will see an increase of $80.00 from the 2021/2022 season.

Special Meeting - 2022/23 Registration Fees

BDMHA Members:

During the 2021/2022 AGM a question was raised by the attending membership with regards to the process of how the 2022/2023 budget and fees are to be approved, and due to uncertainty around the process at the AGM the agenda, the item was tabled.   Following the meeting, the 2022/2023 Executive Committee of Jason Foster, Jennifer MacLeod, Greg Crowell and Christien Lefebvre, with the help of Matt Oxford, reviewed the Constitution to determine how this was to occur.  The only reference to fee approval is listed in Article XI: Registration on page 15 which states, “The fees to be collected for pre-registration and at the walk-in registration shall be the fees approved by the Executive Committee and the membership at the proceeding Annual General Meeting.”

As a result, during a meeting of the Executive Officers on June 14, the following motion was made:

Motion made by Greg Crowell to approve the financials as presented at the Executive Officer meeting of June 6, 2022.  Seconded by Jennifer MacLeod.  Motion carried.

Given that the Association requires the 2022/2023 fees to be set and approved prior to being able to open Registration, President Jason Foster is calling a Special Meeting (pursuant to the Constitution Section X on Special Meetings: Special Meetings of the Association may be called by a vote of the majority of the Executive Officers or at the discretion of the President. Any business that can be conducted at the AGM can be conducted at a Special Meeting.) for June 23, 2022 at 8:00pm.  We will post details of the location shortly.   At this meeting, the 2022/2023 budget and proposed fee structure will be presented again to the membership and a motion will be made to those in attendance to approve the fees as presented.  The proposed fee structure will be posted on the BDMHA website on or before June 21, 2022.  The 2022/2023 budget and registration fees will be the only agenda item of this special meeting.

At the conclusion of the Special Meeting, provided the fees are approved as presented, BDMHA will post the AGM PowerPoint slides to the BDMHA website, which contain all material covered during the AGM and the 2022/2023 Fee Structure.

If you would like to attend this meeting, please RSVP by June 19, 2022 (click HERE)

2022 Nominations Committee & AGM - Update

For immediate release - Updated as of 9:05 pm, May 26th - See note below

After receiving the slate of nominees from the 2022 Nomination Committee, consisting of Keith Foster (Past-President, Chair), Kevin Foster and Abigail Tramble (members at large), BDMHA is pleased to present the following slate of candidates for the 2022-2023 season. All positions are a one-year term.

  • President – Jason Foster (acclaimed)
  • Secretary – Jennifer MacLeod (acclaimed)
  • VP Development – Christien Lefebvre (acclaimed)
  • VP Operations – Greg Crowell (acclaimed)
The following positions received no nominations and are currently vacant for the 2022-23 season. The newly acclaimed executive committee will appoint individuals within 14 days after the Annual General Meeting to fill these roles.
  • VP Competitive
  • VP Recreation
  • VP U7/U9
  • VP Finance

NOTE - To all BDMHA Members;

We have received several emails from concerned members of BDMHA with regards to the date of the AGM and the slate of candidates for the 2022/2023 season.  Instead of trying to respond to the numerous emails individually we wanted to put out this message to our entire membership.

The date of the AGM has been pushed 1 day to June 9 because our constitution states that BDMHA must provide 14 days notice of the candidates.  Unfortunately this will mean that our current VP of Finance is unable to attend the meeting.

To explain how the nomination slate was developed, all nominations were submitted to the nominating committee and they recommended who should be on the slate of candidates.  Upon review by the executive committee it was determined that some candidates did not met the one year requirement to hold a VP Position, which had previously defined as meaning 365 days.

Given this, the current executive committee felt we could not overrule past precedent.  I want to ensure everyone that Executive members that would be in direct conflict with the outcome of this discussion/decision abstained from the motion and vote of eligibility.

After this, the slate of candidates was released.

Jason Foster

BDMHA – Interim President

The Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 9, 7 pm.
