Travel Permits

Travel Permits are required by all teams (competitive and recreational) playing a game(s) outside of their zone.  Bedford & District Minor Hockey Association is part of the Halifax Zone.  Scheduled league games are covered by a blanket permit and teams do not have to obtain a Travel Permit to participate in these games.  The only games that are affected are exhibition and tournaments.

As per Hockey Nova Scotia regulations the Halifax Zone consists of Chebucto, Halifax, Bedford, Sackville and TASA.  So if you are planning a game or to participate in a tournament at any association other than these you are required to obtain a Travel Permit.

It is very important that these permits be obtained.  Without the proper documentation (travel permit) the game is not sanctioned by Hockey Nova Scotia and Hockey Canada.  The result of this is that all participants can become liable to any injuries or other actions that would normally be covered by the Hockey Canada insurance.

The permit number must be recorded on the game sheet of every game covered by the permit.  Officials will check the game sheet for this information and they could  refuse to allow the game to be played without the appropriate information (travel permit).

To obtain a Travel Permit, contact Monica Foster by phone (835-4767(h), 491-6713(w), 483-5969(c)) or Email  with your request.

Please Include
- date of the game
- team you are playing
- location of game

In the case of a tournament, please indicate dates and place of the tournament.

Ideally, two weeks notice is expected to receive a travel permit, as they must be approved by our regional director, Bernie Lawlor.  This is especially important for out of province travel.  Generally however, a one week turn around can be achieved.  In extraordinary circumstances attempts will be made for a faster turnaround but please be advised there will be no guarantee a permit will be approved if the request is made outside the time frames mentioned here.

Please be advised officials are generally very strict about teams having the proper exhibition game and travel permit documentation.  This is for your protection, as teams playing without the proper approved numbers and documents will not be covered by insurance.

Direct any questions to Monica Foster.
